As the daughter of Filipino immigrants, I understand the complexities of navigating different cultures with often conflicting values. I know the pressure to honor my parents’ struggles while also trying to stay true to myself. I know the humble desire to make them proud, the sense of duty and gratitude for their sacrifices, and the fierce loyalty inherent in many immigrant families. My journey has shown me the impact of unaddressed family wounds —silent suffering, defensive behaviors, and unhealthy relationship patterns—but also that profound healing is possible when there is trust and connection.
