About Weaving Stories Therapy

Culturally attuned, trauma-informed therapy in San Carlos and online across California.

At Weaving Stories Therapy, we believe healing happens in relationship.

Therapy is more than symptom management. It is a space to reclaim your story, reconnect with your body, and untangle patterns shaped by family, culture, and history.

We provide culturally responsive therapy for individuals, teens, and couples navigating anxiety, trauma, ADHD, identity exploration, intergenerational wounds, and relationship challenges.

For many of our clients — especially those seeking a Filipino therapist in California or culturally attuned therapy in San Carlos — finding a therapist who understands both personal and collective context matters deeply.

You deserve care that sees the whole picture.

Our Philosophy

Your struggles do not exist in isolation.

They are shaped by:

  • Family systems

  • Cultural expectations

  • Immigration and diaspora experiences

  • Intergenerational trauma

  • Colonization and systemic stress

  • Attachment wounds

  • Nervous system adaptations

We approach therapy through a relational and decolonial lens, recognizing that many symptoms are survival strategies.

Anxiety may be hypervigilance learned early.
Perfectionism may have once meant safety.
Emotional shutdown may have protected you in environments where softness was not allowed.

You are not broken.
Your nervous system adapted wisely.

Therapy becomes a space where survival patterns can gently soften into intentional living.

What “Weaving Stories” Means

Our name holds layered meaning.

Weaving Stories reflects the unfolding journey of therapy. At first, your experiences may feel fragmented — overwhelming emotions, family conflict, cultural tension, trauma responses that seem disconnected.

As we move through the therapeutic process, clarity begins to emerge.

You start to recognize how the different parts of your life are deeply interconnected — how your attachment patterns formed, how intergenerational messages shaped your identity, how your nervous system learned to survive.

Over time, these pieces begin to come together.

You are not erasing your story.
You are weaving it into something more cohesive.

This integration fosters:

  • Deeper self-understanding

  • Emotional regulation

  • Compassion for younger parts of you

  • A stronger sense of identity

  • A feeling of wholeness

Healing becomes less about “fixing” yourself and more about reclaiming your narrative.

The Deeper Meaning of Weaving

The act of weaving carries ancestral significance.

It is a tribute to Monica’s roots in the islands now known as the Philippines, where weaving traditions have existed since pre-colonial times. Across the archipelago, weaving varies in technique, material, pattern, and meaning — reflecting the diversity and resilience of its people.

We honor this tradition not only as a symbol of unity, but also as a celebration of difference.

Each thread is distinct.
Each pattern tells a story.
Each community carries its own wisdom.

On a broader scale, Weaving Stories Therapy is a nod to Indigenous cultures around the world and the communal knowledge passed down through generations through weaving and storytelling.

Before colonization disrupted lineages and narratives, stories were preserved through craft, ritual, and community.

Therapy, in this way, becomes an act of remembering.

Remembering that you belong.
Remembering that your story has context.
Remembering that healing can be both personal and collective.

For those searching for a Filipino therapist in California or culturally responsive therapy rooted in ancestral awareness, this lineage matters.

At Weaving Stories Therapy, we honor the threads you carry — inherited, chosen, and still unfolding.

And together, we begin to weave.

Honoring the Land

Just as we honor the stories carried within each person, we honor the land that holds us.

We acknowledge that we practice on lands originally stewarded by the Ramaytush Ohlone and Wiyot Peoples. These lands were never ceded. Indigenous communities are still here — continuing traditions of care, resistance, and stewardship.

The name Weaving Stories is rooted in ancestral traditions of craft, memory, and relationship. We recognize that these traditions did not exist separate from land. Colonization disrupted both land sovereignty and cultural continuity — impacts that continue to shape collective mental health today.

Much of the anxiety, disconnection, and burnout we experience in modern life can be traced to systems built on colonization and capitalism — systems that separate us from land, lineage, and one another.

Tending to our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing is not separate from decolonization. It is part of it.

As a practice, we remain committed to learning how we participate in ongoing systems of extraction and harm. We strive to decolonize our minds, our relationships, and the mental health field itself.

In gratitude and accountability, a portion of our fees are donated to Sogorea Te’ Land Trust, an Indigenous women-led organization working toward rematriation in the Bay Area.

We invite reflection on your own relationship to the land you occupy and the Indigenous peoples who continue to steward it.

May our healing ripple outward — toward community, toward land, and toward collective liberation.

Healing is personal.
And it is also collective.

When we tend to our nervous systems, untangle inherited wounds, and live with greater intention, we interrupt cycles that were never meant to define us.

If you feel ready to begin that work, we’re here.
